How can I manage many accounts with one email address?

Wikidot lets you use email addresses like "example+stuff@gmail.com", which goes to the account "example@gmail.com". By putting whatever you like in the "+stuff" part you can create unique email addresses, but in fact they all arrive in the same account.
This seems as good a source as any: Google Tutor » Gmail + Aliases
Also, you may be interested in reading the official documentation.
The first source says that only a maximum of eight characters can be used after the + symbol. In fact, this is incorrect as much longer aliases will also work.
E.g. If my regular email was example@gmail.com, then I could do this: example+wikidot.com@gmail.com and I'd know that anything sent to me at that address originally came from wikidot or from a site that they gave my email address to (Grr!)
It also means that I can create multiple accounts all with the same email address:
example+account1@gmail.com
example+account2@gmail.com
And I'd only have to log into example@gmail.com to get emails for both accounts.
Thanks for the hint.
In the article linked to, it is said:
Well, it does not work with Yahoo! (Just tested).

Gerdami, Yahoo has their own way of aliasing addresses called Addressguard. See here. You can't set it up on the fly like the gmail implementation.
Here's google's own page, for completeness.

Didn't even think about adding this to the faq site :) Thanks for using my quote…
I used example@gmail.com because I assumed it wouldn't be taken (it'd be a protected name, I expect). The problem with using anything else is that some poor sod that decided to use a common email like "myname" is going to get spammed even more when spambots index this page :)

Google uses jane.doe - I bet her inbox fills up pretty quick! :-)

Yes… I noticed that :) I was going to replace the FAQ above with your.username@gmail.com (also used in the Google docs), then I realised that the dot in the name just made things a bit harder to read and wasn't really worth it.
