NB. a small limitation... by suefsuef, 09 Nov 2009 14:05

Yes… I noticed that :) I was going to replace the FAQ above with your.username@gmail.com (also used in the Google docs), then I realised that the dot in the name just made things a bit harder to read and wasn't really worth it.

Google uses jane.doe - I bet her inbox fills up pretty quick! :-)

Didn't even think about adding this to the faq site :) Thanks for using my quote…

I used example@gmail.com because I assumed it wouldn't be taken (it'd be a protected name, I expect). The problem with using anything else is that some poor sod that decided to use a common email like "myname" is going to get spammed even more when spambots index this page :)

Gerdami, Yahoo has their own way of aliasing addresses called Addressguard. See here. You can't set it up on the fly like the gmail implementation.

Here's google's own page, for completeness.

Thanks for the hint.

In the article linked to, it is said:

Some email providers support something called “plus” addressing. Gmail is one of them…

Well, it does not work with Yahoo! (Just tested).

I usually just keep clicking on Save repeatedly, and it will work after the 5th or 6th attempt most of the time.

If that doesn't work, I'd copy the source code into a text document and save it to my desktop. Then I'd leave wikidot completely for an hour or two and return, hoping that the problem is fixed. Usually it works then.

I never mention such AjAX errors - and when I get these - they do not disturb me in my work - I always click on save a second or third time ( or on EDIt ) and nothing terrible had happen till today.

I asked the community : *Permanent link for this post is:
